Empty Bowls
Fighting hunger...One bowl at a time.
Rachel has always held a passion to fuse art and service through her #ArtHeals initiative. Each year, she and her students partner with northland local food shelves to raise money for families in need. The concept is simple. Each student creates a series of beautiful ceramic bowls. Community members then purchase a bowl for $10.00 and receives a homemade soup meal donated by various community member and businesses. Buyers get to keep the bowl! Proceeds are given to the food shelves. The "empty bowl" they receive symbolizes someone currently going hungry across America. Since its conception in 2013, the fundraiser has raised over $20,000.
The Empty Bowl Project is a unique way to engage youth in uplifting their community. Not only are they helping others, but they are seeing how art is one of the strongest ways in which people can come together to support a cause. Each bowl is a voice to combat against hunger and each bowl serves as a beautiful, individual work of art. This year, $3,000 was raised. Join her next year for the 2025 event in February!
